The story of nap time

Ever since the move Cory hasn't had a good routine for his nap. Before we left Utah, we took down the crib and moved him into the bottom bunk bed. He has done pretty good, but naps have been the challenge because I can't trap him anywhere. Or so I thought...

Today I tried to lay with him on my bed. I couldn't get him to hold still at all. That was it. I took him in his room, got him settled in his bed, gave him a kiss and walked out shutting the door behind me. He immediately got out of bed and ran to the door and started crying. I had to hold the door knob because he now knows how to open doors.

It was heartbreaking to see his little hand poking under the door. I was talking to him trying to comfort him, but he was mad! Here's a view from under the door.

I sat for a while and held his hand, but determined to get him to take a nap.

Finally, after only 5 minutes he fell asleep. Success!! I love a sleeping baby.

Order vs Chaos

This move has been a great reminder of the importance of routine and order. Since there has been a significant lack of both, it has been interesting to step back and observe how it has effected our family.

As you read this post, keep in mind that I grew up in a very organized home. My mother is amazing. With 6 kids, she kept control of our life and our home. One if my favorite "extreme" stories, is when I was in Kindergarten, we took a family vacation to Hawaii with my mom's family. She had me, Jessica and Erica at the time. Routine was so important to her that she was willing to put us to bed at 5:00 pm and wake us up at 4:00 am to keep us on the same sleep cycle. Hawaii is 4 hours behind us! We would walk the beach and just hang out until everyone else woke up. But according to her story, we were much more pleasant because of that extra effort.

Back to present day... I am not nearly as patient and willing to give up sleep as my mom. There has been a lot of chaos and very little routine in this house. Everyday it seems to get better and better. This morning was a little less chaotic because I chose to stay up late to make sure that all the pieces of our church outfits had been unpacked and found. Cory actually made it to bed before 9:00 tonight. Huge accomplishment!!!

I appreciate the example of my mom and those around me that have found that peace in their life through organization and routine whether they have children or not.

Made it through the first day.

It's after midnight, so I've officially made it through the first full day in Colorado Springs. I am so overwhelmed, but grateful to be on this side of the move.

As I sat for a minute to catch up on my "words with friends" games with Jess, Nick & Denise, I looked down to noticed that even my poor dogs needed a break.

I would now like to introduce you to my new best friends... ok, one is not so new. Yep, couldn't do it without them right now.

When I went in the backyard, I was so excited to see what was headed our way. Ever since I lived in Arizona & Nebraska and truly experienced some extreme weather, I can't get enough of it. The picture below shows what developed into a great thunder and lightning storm!

As I unpacked the kitchen, I am happy to say that we only had just a few casualties from the move. Everything else looked like it survived.

The best part if the day was that I was reunited with my kids. My wonderful sister-in-law, Renita, took the kids on Saturday and drove them out today. They arrived here at 11:30 pm. You would have thought it was the middle of the day with the way they were running around the house exploring!

Tonite our family is back together and safe in our new home. What more could I ask for?

And we're off...

After many months of preparation and exhaustion, I am sitting in the passenger side of our 26' moving truck, Jared's driving and the dogs in the middle, heading to Colorado Springs via Wyoming.

Why Wyoming? It is the flattest route possible. Driving in this beast, we aren't taking any chances.

As I'm trying enjoy the scenery, we pass a wind field on the east side of Evanston. They are amazing pieces of technology.

When I did my last walk through of our house, I was flooded with 8 years of so many memories. I wanted to share a picture of something we had to leave behind. Something the new owners won't appreciate as much as I have.

If I remember right, Jeremy did that the first or second year we lived there. He must have been 5 or 6. It's located in the family room, next to the fireplace.

What a strange feeling it is that I can't do anything except sit and reflect on the last little bit. I'm so sad to leave and yet anxious for another adventure... Another reason why my blog title is

"Everyday is an Adventure"

A Fresh Start

Today begins the final week before leaving for Colorado. I can't believe that it has been almost 2 years to the day that I posted an entry. Much has happened both good and bad in the last 2 years. But alas, it is time to move on and start another chapter in our life.

Feel free to follow along my crazy life and see what's around the next corner...
